It’s one thing when someone in the beauty industry comes up with a new makeup, hair or skin product. But quite another when they create an entirely new category.
You can call this Larchmont mother and daughter “Market Disrupters.”
Francine Gingras says her daughter, Josephine Sullivan, MHS ’11, had the idea for a product that would slow down the evaporation of perfume, keeping the fragrance lasting longer.
Now FragranceLock has launched on the Home Shopping Network, and won an Allure Best of Beauty Award in the “Best Breakthrough” category.
Gingras, who has worked in the beauty industry nearly 20 years, most recently as leading Beauty Public Relations at Elizabeth Arden, says she was listening when her daughter came up with the idea.
“What I heard was an unmet need in the marketplace. The idea was quite simple based on megatrend going on in beauty, with primers, top coats and finishing sprays,” which require fewer applications and less to carry around. Nail polish has a top coat, why not perfume?

Fragrance Lock, says Gingras, is a finishing spray, sprayed over your fragrance, which actually “slows down the rate of dissipation by creating an invisible breathable mesh over the fragrance that allow the fragrance to escape, while at the same time slowing down that rate of evaporation.”
The patent pending formula combines beauty oils and polymers. FragranceLock is available primarily through e-commerce at its website, where a recycled aluminum, eco-friendly 2.75 oz. spray bottle is available for $30.
“In 5 years I hope that FragranceLock is a product in many women’s fragrance rituals.”
This is a lock you may want the key to.
Genius! Can’t wait to try this!
