Westchester Philharmonic Season to Close

Westchester Philharmonic’s remarkable season will close May 14 and 15 with an
exceptionally crafted performance from 27-year-old piano virtuoso Orion
Weiss led by Grammy-winner and musical legend Jaime Laredo.

Maestro Perlman conducts the Westchester Philharmonic

“[An] effortlessly brilliant performer. … with technique to burn and
strongly personable energy” (The Arizona Republic), Orion Weiss’ mastery has
won him acclaim from audiences, critics and colleagues. Under the baton of
Maestro Laredo, Weiss will perform Chopin’s youthful Piano Concert No. 1,
composed specifically as a vehicle for demonstrating virtuoso technique.
Said the Cincinnati Post, “There is a new star on the pianistic horizon…and
like his astrological namesake, he is a constellation unto himself.”

Stepping up to the Westchester Philharmonic podium for the first time, Jaime
Laredo has been making music for over five decades, excelling in the
multiple roles of soloist, conductor, recitalist, pedagogue, and chamber
musician. Of Laredo The Guardian, (London) said “…music-making of
unusually high quality—the sort of playing which comes only from
understanding, love, painstaking care, and, quite simply, great ability.”
Maestro Laredo will also lead the orchestra though prolific Italian composer
Gioachino Rossini’s Overture to Semiramide and Beethoven’s famed Fifth
Symphony, which just completed its second century as the most popular and
widely known piece in the classical music repertoire.

Orion Weiss will participate in a free pre-concert discussion for ticket
holders on Saturday, May 14 at 6:50 pm and Sunday, May 15 at 1:50 pm. A
discussion on Weiss’ career and on performing Chopin will be moderated by
Executive Director, Joshua Worby.

All events take place at in The Concert Hall at the Performing Arts Center
at Purchase College. A free open rehearsal is also scheduled for Saturday,
May 14 at 10 am in The Concert Hall.
