Westchester Democrats Win the Day

“Democrats, a mighty wave has hit Westchester County,”  State Senator George Latimer proclaimed Tuesday night at a White Plains restaurant, after handily defeating Robert Astorino (R), the incumbent Westchester County Executive, 56.6% to Astorino’s  43.4%.

In Westchester,  registered Democrats outnumber Republicans by a two-to-one margin, but have traditionally given the County Executive job to Republicans.

Democrats in Westchester, of course, mirrored a similar wave of Democrats across the country,

Catherine Parker (D) won another term as Westchester County Legislator in District 7, defeating Norman Rosenblum (R), outgoing Mamaroneck Village Mayor, about 66% to 33%. 

In Mamaroneck Village, Tom Murphy, a Democrat and former Village of Mamaroneck trustee, defeated George Mgrditchian, a Republican. Murphy, 56, is a former a village trustee a former Town of Mamaroneck councilman.

Mamaroneck Town Supervisor Nancy Seligson (D) and Town Council members Jaine Eney (D) and Sabrina Fiddelman (D) won in uncontested races.

Republicans held onto another seat, in a race closely watched here at theLoop, Kristen Browde (D) lost her bid for New Castle Town Supervisor approximately at 46% of the vote, against incumbent Robert Greenstein (R), with about 53%.
