Local officials have expressed “severe displeasure” with the way the Weaver Street Bridge project has been delayed, according to Mamaroneck Town Supervisor Nancy Seligson.
The NYS DOT is now saying the bridge will be closed until August 16 and that construction activity will be finalized on August 22. The original re-opening date was to be July 24. The bridge spans I-95 on one of the most heavily traveled stretches of roadway in Westchester County.
“(We) have been in contact with NYS DOT for weekly project updates,” Seigson says. (“Town Administrator ) Steve Altieri has spoken with representatives to indicate our severe displeasure with the way the project has been handled up till now. We have had problems with the bridge barriers and obviously there hasn’t been major construction work on the bridge yet. We have been assured that construction will begin Monday July 8.”
Altieri adds there is also “work being completed by Con Edison that has delayed the start of construction.”
“We will continue to pressure DOT to work as fast as possible,” Seligson said.
What’s scary is the company that will rebuild the bridge, could not properly place barriers and detour signs! Imagine how they will fix the bridge!!!
Con Edison needs to be pressured as well.
Yeah they always say they are “on it” but I never actually see anyone working just a lot of sitting around in cars and talking on cell phones.
