You may know it these days as a place to buy cut Christmas trees, but the Town of Mamaroneck has bought the VFW Post at 1288 Boston Post Road for a reported $2.2 million.
For the last nine years, the Town has rented the space for a Senior Center and town meetings.
According to the organization’s website, the VFW bought the building in 1942 for $5,000 only a few months after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and named the Post for David Potts Jr., Mamaroneck’s last resident killed serving in World War 1.
VFW Post 1156 has served as a social club for veterans since World War II, and will continue to do so. The sign will remain in place.
