Thrifty Thursday: The Bread Factory

You know the Bread Factory in new Rochelle (soon to be renamed Sonny Orza’s Bread Factory) by the sign you can see from the the highway, southbound on I-95 (above).

But have you been?

Bunny Bread for Easter, wrapped around eggs

Their amazing, low priced offerings have been feeding generations of locals handmade pastries, bread, danishes ($1 each!), croissants and muffins since 1908 (before moving from Yonkers 12 years ago.)

One of their biggest customers was the old Yankee Stadium. When the new Stadium opened, Derek Jeter asked Stadium management to bring back the treats from New Rochelle.

The Orzo Family has run The Bread Factory since 1908

Thrifty Thursday Tip: After 4:30, everything is half price. (and after that, Sonny gives it to a church.)

Yes it has been a favorite until this past early December when i was there mid afternoon.
A worker was brushing (butter?) on a pan of treats – maybe rolls- In any event she was coughing, sneezing, not turning her head; not covering her mouth.
I commented to the counter person – “she looks pretty sick” – The counter clerk shrugged and said “allergies”. I suggested she should be wearing a mask or at least covering her mouth as she continued to cough
and sneeze. The sick worker looked angrily at me, speaking rapid fire spanish to her co-worker and gestured to me – what is the problem?
I called and left a message for management but have yet heard back, and have not gone back to shop either.
