Spotlight on Art: Larchmont’s Wendy Popp

The exhibit “Drawing Until Dawn: Conjuring Images for Social Change,” featuring more than 40 illustrations by Larchmont artist K. Wendy Popp, is on display now through April 30 at the Larchmont Library’s Oresman Gallery. The exhibit is free and open to everyone during normal library hours.

Original works depicting local residents are incorporated into the exhibition which touch on the topic of “Art and Advocacy.” Themes of moral conflict, resistance and spiritual resilience and how illustrative art can elicit tangible change are explored.

In the exhibit, Popp explores the way art -related activities can engage individuals, spurring adults and children to take an active role in promoting social change, particularly in struggling communities.

Popp’s pastels and drawings have illustrated books, newspapers and publications internationally for more than two decades.

Her artwork is held in private collections and galleries throughout the United States. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the Sydney Tyler Book Award and the Washington Irving Children’s Choice Honor. A 28-year Larchmont resident, Popp’s most recent books published are Where the Sunrise Begins (Simon & Schuster, May 2010) and Artists Against the War (Underwood Books, January 2011).

For more information about the exhibit, call the library at 914-834-2281 or visit the library online.
