Scarsdale Undercover: 2/7-2/14

In Scarsdale Undercover, we share some of the more…unusual…police activity on the beat in Scarsdale. The “real” crimes will continue to appear in our weekly Police Blotter.

SCARY SOUNDS

A woman frightened by noises coming from the first floor of her house called 911 on Feb. 14.  Culprit turned out to be dry cleaning hanging on the front door.

REPO MAN

A man showed up at the police station on Feb. 13 to let officers know he was in town to repossess a car from a local address. The car wasn’t there.

B-I-N-G-O!

A Cooper Road resident asked police on Feb. 13 to check out a car parked in front of her house with the engine running for about 15 minutes. Several women leaving an “adult bingo party” nearby were warming up the car.

BACK UP

Police received a report on Feb. 11 that a truck at Heathcote and Sherbrooke roads was trying to back up, causing traffic to pile up at the same time. All was clear when police arrived.

MUD

Police received a report Feb. 9 that construction vehicles on Lebanon Road are tracking up the street with mud. After receiving a warning, crews said they’d clean the road and wouldn’t muddy it up again.

LARGE PLASTIC BOX

An Overlook Lane resident on Feb. 9 reported a male and female in the area carrying a large plastic box, and she “feels this is suspicious.” The duo, soliciting on behalf of the New York Youth Corporation, had a valid permit to be there.

CHRISTMAS IN FEBRUARY

A caller reported that there was a Christmas tree in the middle of the road on Palmer and Mamaroneck avenues Feb. 8. Upon arrival to the scene patrol found nothing of the sort. Patrol did remove a cardboard box from the roadway.

NEIGHBORLY LOVE

A Carol Drive resident on Feb. 7 reported an SUV with no front plate parked in front of the house for “an extended period of time.” It turns out the owner of the car lives across the street – and moved it.

SHOVELING SNOW

A Sheldrake Road resident Feb. 7 reported landscapers placing snow in the road. Though police didn’t see evidence of the infraction, they asked the resident employing the landscapers to tell them doing so is against village code.
