"The greens and tees are just beautiful," he said on Wednesday. "It really looks beautiful. You can really see what (legendary golf course architect A.W.) Tillinghast had in mind."
Golfers can reserve tee times starting Monday at 7 p.m. by using the automated tee time phone system at 914-995-4653. E-Z Reserve tee times will be honored starting June 19.
The course, which closed last fall to undergo the renovation project, will feature a continuous cart path and new irrigation and drainage systems. All 35 bunkers on the course were also redone with new sand. In addition, the clubhouse and the Saxon Grill received new roofs. The only downside to the project is that the sixth hole will have a temporary green until next season, Carnevali said.
The 18-hole, 6,293-yard course opened to the public in 1931 and has been a favorite among area golfers ever since. It is one of six courses operated by Westchester County.
"We’ve been open for 80 years," Carnevali said. "And for the first time in 80 years we’ve let the grass really take root. We’ll keep it in the best shape we can for as long as we can."
The course’s opening was delayed by a rainy and windy spring, and Carnevali said his staff is eager to welcome golfers.
"We’re really looking forward to serving our patrons," he said.
