Westchester County Executive George Latimer has ended the County’s upcoming 30-year contract with Standard Amusements for the management of Rye Playland. The agreement was scheduled to start in November 2019. Latimer noted that there have been several months of conflict over the contract, which he considers a bad deal for Westchester.
Latimer’s administration conducted a review of the agreement last year after Latimer defeated Rob Astorino in the election. It was Astorino’s signature deal. In May 2018, Latimer released an internal report citing unfavorable terms in the contract for Westchester taxpayers.
Playland is scheduled to open on Saturday, May 11 from noon to 8 PM. Special events include “May Days” and Mother’s Day events online here.
