A two year old toddler is dead and her mother shot by police after a police responded to a domestic incident on Chestnut Avenue in Mamaroneck.
Police say they were trying to help her 2-year-old daughter who “needed medical aid”
Two officers were injured when the 28-year old woman “stabbed them” with a knife. The officers used a taser on the woman to get her to drop the weapon, and when she did not, they fired shots.
The cause of the child’s death is pending an autopsy. The other remains in a local hospital. None of the police injuries are life threatening, police said.
The Saturday afternoon incident started around 1:30 p.m. on Chestnut Avenue when police received a 911 call from a cell phone.
“The female was given numerous verbal commands by the officers to show her hands,” Det. Sandra DiRuzza said. “The female then attacked the officers with a knife, injuring two of them.”
“Preliminary investigations have revealed the officers on scene acted within departmental guidelines and training,” she added. “An investigation is currently being conducted by this department with the assistance of the Westchester County Department of Public Safety.”
