PENAL LAW ARREST
A New Rochelle man and a Harrison woman were arrested on 5/15 (see story) after witnesses observed the two removing property on North Ave in the area of West Ave, and while leaving the area their vehicle struck a dog. Tara WOLCZAK, 31 of Harrison was operating her SUV and failed to stop after the collision. WOLCZAK and her passenger, Douglas RIZO of New Rochelle, were confronted by a witness and an altercation ensued. Responding officers observed a heavy, copper wire in the rear of the SUV, and later determined the property belonged to Con Edison. The two were charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, and WOLCZAK was also cited for Leaving the Scene of an Accident. Both defendants were released on $250 bail.

Police received seven reports of larceny from cars overnight on May 19, including four on Marbourne Drive. Police say they have no suspects and the investigations are ongoing.

A father was charged with third-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors, at about 4 p.m. According to police, school officials noticed bruises on the youth and contacted Child Protective Services. The father, police said, was attempting to discipline the youth and went too far. May 19

A 22-year-old resident was struck by a car while riding her bicycle on Fenimore Road at about 6:30 p.m. According to the woman, she was heading north on Fenimore, crossing Hoyt Avenue, when she was struck by a small black car that left the scene. May 20

DRUNK DRIVING
A 39-year-old Danbury, Conn., woman was arrested for driving while intoxicated at 631 Mamaroneck Avenue at about 2 a.m. Police said they observed the woman making an unsafe lane change and pulled her over. At that time, police detected the odor of alcohol and placed her under arrest. She agreed to take the chemical test and failed. May 22

A 38-year-old Yonkers man was arrested at a gas station at 540 Mamaroneck Avenue at about 5 a.m. and charged with driving while intoxicated, unlawful possession of marijuana and drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle. Police said the man was yelling anti-American statements and being disorderly inside the gas station. May 22

An employee at a store at 451 East Boston Post Road reported that she has been having an ongoing issue with kids popping balloons outside her studio. At about 11:15 a.m., she said several kids, around 13 years old, were throwing tennis balls at the store. May

A Mamaroneck man was charged with menacing after refusing to leave his girlfriend’s North Barry Avenue apartment at about 9 a.m. May 22

An 18-year-old Mamaroneck man was charged with trespassing and possession of marijuana at about 10:30 p.m. at 550 North Wagner Avenue. Police said they received a complaint about kids coming onto the property and chasing the resident’s dog. When they arrived, they arrested the suspect and found him to be in possession of marijuana. A County Coach Corporation employee reported that a vending machine was taken from the Cedar Place building sometime over the past several months. The vending machine was valued at $6,000 and had $25 in coins and $50 in food items. May 20.

Police received a report of a safe in the woods near the WESTMED Medical Group parking lot at 1 Theall Road. Police found the safe, which appeared to be damaged. The safe contained an empty cup. May 20.
CHILD STRUCK BY CAR
An 11-year-old girl was struck by a car on Boston Post Road just before 4 p.m. According to the driver, the girl ran into traffic and he was unable to stop before bumping her to the ground. She was transported to Greenwich Hospital with injuries to her arm. May 20

BOMB THREAT
The son-in-law of a deceased home owner on Sonn Drive reported that he found a hand grenade in a chest while cleaning the house at about 2 p.m.. Police closed Sonn Drive between Reymont Avenue and Claremont Avenue while awaiting the Westchester County Bomb Squad’s arrival. The grenade was found to be inactive and it was disassembled. May 23
THEFT FROM BUILDING
A Rye Free Reading Room employee reported that the library’s projector was missing from the building at 1061 Boston Post Road. It had last been seen on the afternoon of May 21. It was valued at $1,000. May 23
TRESPASSING
A 19-year-old Rye man was arrested for trespassing at the skate park at 319 Midland Avenue at about 7:30 p.m.. Police said they received a report of an injured male at the park. When they arrived, they found the man in the fenced-in and locked park receiving medical attention from his brother. The man told police he jumped the fence to borrow a cell phone from one of his friends who was skateboarding at the park According to witnesses, the man severely injured his ankle when he attempted to ride a skateboard down one of the ramps. He was transported to White Plains Hospital. May 23
ARREST
Responding to a request for assistance from the Port Chester Police Department regarding
a stolen vehicle, Rye police apprehended a 20-year-old Port Chester man who crashed a car near St. Mary’s Cemetery and fled on foot at about 1 a.m.. A Rye police officer found the man crouched in thick brush in the cemetery, and the suspect allegedly ran away. According to police, he ignored repeated orders to stop and appeared to be fumbling for something in his pants. A police officer used his Taser on the suspect, who was then arrested. He was charged by Port Chester police with fleeing police officers in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to dim high beams. A Rye Brook police officer was injured in the pursuit and received surgery for a broken ankle. May 24
