SOOP Theatre Arts Repertory (STAR), the educational arm of the SOOP Theatre Company, now in it’s seventh year at the historic Manor Club Theatre of Pelham Manor, was honored by the National Youth Arts Awards (NYAA) with four wins including OUTSTANDING PRODUCTION (Junior Division), plus six additional nominations for it’s Spring 2015 production of Mary Poppins.
“We are so excited and honored to receive these awards” said Artistic Director, Paul Romanello, “Of, course, we never do any of this for the prizes, but it does validate the hard work, passion and commitment displayed by all involved – I couldn’t be more proud of our kids and staff!”
SOOP (an acronym for Seat Of Our Pants) Theatre Company was created in 1998, producing original works in NYC. The STAR program began in Pelham Manor in answer to local parents looking for theatre programs for their children.
Starting with one, tiny acting class of 10 kids, SOOP has grown to service over 250 kids a year reaching beyond Pelham’s borders, with two Main Stage productions a year, a TYA (theatre for young audience / professionals performing for kids and families) holiday performance, six workshop style classes (two per trimester, grades K-2 and 3-6, culminating in a performance for family and friends), voice and piano lessons, college audition coaching and public speaking for both kids and adults.
SOOP will be presenting the musical HAIRSPRAY this Fall for grades 9 – 12; check out sooptheatre.org for more details about all our programs and to make an audition appointment.
