Pedestrian Hit

For those of you who saw the police activity near the Larchmont train station…

Thursday night, what the police are saying is only this:

At approximately 7:25 pm 19 November 2009, Larchmont Police officers responded to

Chatsworth Ave. over I-95 on a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
The pedestrian, a 48-year-old New Rochelle man, sustained head injuries as a result of the
impact and was removed to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. The operator of the
vehicle, a 68-year-old New Rochelle woman was removed to Sound Shore Medical Center
in New Rochelle, complaining of shortness of breath. She was treated and released. An
updated condition of the pedestrian is not available at the time of this release.
The preliminary investigation revealed no aggravating factors were present, and no
charges have been filed.
Westchester County Police was requested to the scene to assist the Larchmont Police
officers in the execution of the accident investigation.
editrix: whether this could have been caused or aggravated by the major street work laying pipes in the same area is still unknown.

All true, but a moment of reflection about how aggressively people drive in this area is not misplaced. Nobody has patience for a driver ahead of them slowing down to look at a street sign, and too many drivers still have cell phones stuck to their ears. Peace …

it was dark at 7:25…and not to offend anyone, but it seems like a good number of commuters walk straight across that street as if they have the right of way. “Playing frogger” is a perfect metaphor.
Pedestrians need to be mindful that it’s a main road and that it’s hard to see someone in a dark overcoat crossing the road.
Having said all that…I do hope everyone is okay.

Why should there be a crosswalk over the bridge? The only place to go is back down into 95 or the RR tracks. Everyone coming up the stairs from the station should go to the crosswalk at Palmer or Myrtle. If you watch, very few actually go down the one way street behind Nicky’s.

Whether this could have been caused or aggravated by the daily playing of “Frogger” by pedestrians darting across Chatsworth in and out of moving traffic is still unknown. :o

I would just add that there is no crosswalk over the bridge, Larchmont Police would not identify either the victim or the driver or which was the pedestrian was crossing Chatsworth Avenue.
