Paine to Pain Oct.3rd

Organizers of the Third Annual Paine to Pain 1/2 Marathon Trail Race are expecting a record number of runners for the Oct. 3 race that follows the

Colonial Greenway through New Rochelle, Scarsdale, Eastchester, Mamaroneck and Larchmont.

Now they’re focusing their attention on getting enough volunteers to ensure everything runs smoothly.

"It’s because of this tremendous growth that we need more volunteers this year," race director Eric Turkewitz said.  "We want to put on the best event that we can for these communities."

Turkewitz said the race already has 112 entries and he is expecting a total of 350 runners. Last year 191 runners finished, and 50 runners competed in the event’s first year. The race was recently singled out by Active.com as one of the country’s scenic half-marathons.

Organizers are looking for volunteers to lend a hand before, during and after the race.

Pre-race volunteers are needed to help with registration on Oct. 1 and 2 at Westchester Road Runner in White Plains and on Oct. 3 at Paine Cottage in New Rochelle. Organizers are also looking for volunteers to mark the trail on Oct. 2.

Race-day help is needed for parking assistance, water distribution at three stops, marshals for the trail, and finish-line set-up as well as food and water distribution.

After the race, organizers are looking for volunteers to sweep the flags off the trail.

Contact Turkewitz at eric@turkewitzlaw.com or volunteer coordinator Greg Stern at sterno2005@gmail.com if you’re interested in volunteering.

If you’re interested in running, the cost is $35 until Sept. 1. To enter online, visit http://www.active.com/running/new-rochellenone-ny/paine-to-pain-trail-half-marathon-2010.
