Larchmont’s neighborhood grocery store, Food Horizon (112 Chatsworth Avenue), is under new ownership and will soon reopen under the name Food Basket.
Although there will still be familiar faces, including the Chatsworth Avenue store’s current owners, behind the counter, the grocery will undergo some changes, according to individuals involved in the deal.
You can already spot signs inside the store that the business is in transition (other than the big banner hanging in the window).
Just stopped by the former Food Horizon, and happily Dr. Lee was present and continues to work there. He did complete his Ph.D at U of P, just like so many Larchmonters want for their kids. So, give this man respect and call him Dr. Lee. He is really a lovely man and maybe he uses his psychology brilliance when he deals with us customers. The store looks more “spruced up”.
I shop at Food Horizon frequently, b/c it is around the corner from my house. The male cashier is Mr. Lee (Dr. Lee). For those who don’t know, Dr. Lee is a psychologist who had a degree from Korea. He now completed his coursework for a Ph.D at University of Pennsylvania and is completing his dissertation. The topic is children of immigrants in the USA. So next time you shop there address him as Dr. Lee.
The owner, Steve Reyes, is a Larchmont local. You may recognize from Lusardis or if your smoke alarm has ever gone off- Steve is a volunteer firefighter right here in Larchmont. He is one of the nicest people I have ever met and with a decade of experience in Fine dining/Food, the store is a 100% improvement in both the new facelift and customer service. go check out the new store and see for yourself. Support a great local business AND a great local Hero.
