
A decades-old idea to blast a tunnel under the Long island Sound to connect Rye to the North Shore of Long Island is no longer in play by the Cuomo administration. A state-funded study found the project would have cost up to $55 billion to construct.
“After a careful review of a variety of considerations pertaining to the project, NYSDOT has decided not to move forward with it at this time,” says Paul Karas, the state’s acting transportation commissioner.
