New Rochelle’s Iona College announced its President will bemoving to Seton Hall University, effective August 1, 2019,
Dr. Joseph Nyre has served as the president of the Catholic institution since 2011.
“It is a great honor and my distinct privilege to be selected to serve as Seton Hall’s 21st president,” Dr. Nyre said. “Iona College is a truly special place with a dedicated Board of Trustees, remarkable students and committed faculty and staff. I firmly believe Iona is well positioned to continue to transform the lives of the students it serves. I am proud of the work we have accomplished and look forward to the continued success of Iona.”
According to a press release from the college, “During his eight years as president, the College experienced new academic programs; the creation of the Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation….Additionally, Iona reduced its tuition dependency; substantially strengthened its fiscal health; and, expanded the footprint of the campus culminating in two new residence halls and the recent groundbreaking for the LaPenta School of Business.
Nyre was the college’s first president who was not a member of the Christian Brothers, the Catholic religious community that founded Iona in 1940.
Iona will conduct a nationwide search for a new President.
