The New Rochelle city council passed an amendment that eases zoning laws on craft businesses in order to entice breweries looking for retail space in the downtown area, LoHud reported.
Previously, brewing was only permitted in industrial zones or in new buildings. The new regulations will allow microbrewers to open up downtown, where they could entice patrons to tasting rooms adjoining their production facilities.
Councilman Ivar Hyden said that breweries are an appropriate use of downtown space and “would attract younger people and people who are interested in those kinds of social activities.” [Lohud]
