New Rochelle Bar Seized for Back Taxes

Oops. That big orange sign in front isn’t too welcoming. Someone didn’t pay their taxes, according to the state, and a popular sports bar has been seized.

According to reports, Chuggers Sports Bar at 234 North Avenue in New Rochelle, was seized by the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance Jan. 8 for not paying more than $9,000 in back taxes.

A spokesman for the department said it will work with the owners to get the back taxes and let them reopen.

The bar was the site of a shooting a few weeks ago on Dec. 15, 2018. New Rochelle Police later arrested Jeffrey Stover, 48, charging him with possession of a deadly weapon, reckless endangerment and one count of possession of stolen property.
