New Dems Endorsed for Larchmont Village

Village of Larchmont Democratic Party has nominated Lorraine Walsh and John Komar as candidates for Trustee and Jerry Bernstein as candidate for Village Justice. The caucus was held January 25.

A brief biography for each appears below.

The candidates are expected to run uncontested  March 15, assuming two seats are being vacated by trustees Richard Ward (D) and Anne McAndrews (D). All five members of the Board of Trustees are currently Democrats.

The caucus was held in the Village Courtroom and was attended by the biggest names in the party from the likes of State Assemblyman George Latimer and County Legislator Judy Myers to Larchmont Mayor Josh Mandell and former Mayor Miriam Curnin.

The election is Tuesday, March 15th in the Village Center (behind the Library).
Polls will be open from 6AM to 9PM.

Lorraine Walsh is running for Village Trustee. She has lived in Larchmont for 13 years. Lorraine has twins, Douglas and Veronica, in their last year at Hommocks M.S. Presently she runs her own landscape design company and serves as human resources manager for her husband’s computer consulting firm.
While in Larchmont, Lorraine has served as co-chair of the Town of Mamaroneck/Village of Larchmont Coastal Zone Management Committee and as chair of the Larchmont Democrats, volunteered as a naturalist at the Sheldrake Environmental Center and been an active member of the PTA at Chatsworth and Hommocks. Before coming to Larchmont, Lorraine was a NYC public high school science teacher. Prior to that she was an acquisitions editor of professional and graduate-level books in the environmental sciences and, earlier,  an environmental geologist on Long Island.
Her wide-ranging experience in business, education and environmental sciences demonstrates an ability to adapt to a broad variety of challenges as well as relate to diverse communities of people. These skills will serve her well in managing the multifaceted issues facing our village today.

John Komar is running for Village Trustee. John is a Westchester native and has been a resident of Larchmont for 8 years. He is married to Katharine Colloton Komar, a Larchmont local. John is a member of the Larchmont Yacht Club and a parishioner at St. Augustine’s Church.
John presently is the Chief Credit Officer for Country Bank in NYC. Prior to that he was chief lending officer at USA Bank. All told, he has over 31 years experience in accounting and finance with the most recent 25 years specializing in real estate financing and banking. John earned a degree in business management at Boston College.
John has volunteered as a member of the Larchmont Fire Department, the Village Board of Assessment Review and the Village Business District Improvement Committee. John’s strong belief in community service and his experience in the financial industry will be an asset to the Village of Larchmont.

Jerry Bernstein has been Village Justice in Larchmont for sixteen years, and is running for his fifth term.  Jerry has been a resident of the Village for twenty-four years.  He has three children, Aaron, Maia and Ethan, the youngest, who is a senior at Mamaroneck High School.  Jerry is a partner at the law firm of Blank Rome LLP, where he specializes in white collar criminal law and complex commercial litigation.  Before entering private practice, Jerry served for ten years as a federal prosecutor in Washington, D.C. and then New York.  In all, Jerry brings thirty-six years of experience to the bench, as a judge, prosecutor and lawyer in private practice.
