Mamaroneck Village Murals in Progress, “Skinniest House” Featured

The “skinny house” will be the subject of one of Mamaroneck’s new artist murals.

note:

In light of the forecast of rain for Monday, they have rescheduled the two outdoor events (meet the artist and spray painting workshop) from Monday to Wednesday, as shown here.

If you like the artist murals that went up in Larchmont, you’ll love the ones planned for Mamaroneck.

From April 10 to 20, the Mamaroneck Historical Murals will be created throughout the Village of Mamaroneck.

Street artists from around the world will create six wall paintings that pay tribute to the rich history of the Village. The Historical Murals Project is sponsored by the Mamaroneck Historical Society, Village of Mamaroneck Arts Council, and
Street Art for Mankind, the Larchmont-based nonprofit organization producing the project.

“This will be an incredible artistic and community experience,” promises Audrey Decker, a co-founder of Street Art for Mankind. “It offers people of all ages the chance to see artists imaginatively interpret our foundational stories and celebrate our values.”

Residents and visitors are invited to meet the artists, watch the murals take shape, and participate in special activities during Spring Break week beginning April 15.  Residents and visitors are invited to meet the artists and watch them at work.

Films starring Mamaroneck actors, the subject of a mural,  will be screened at the Library. The iconic Skinny House, another mural inspiration, will be showcased in presentations by Julie Seely, the builder’s granddaughter. A spray paint workshop will teach street art techniques.

The week-long program culminates in an inaugural Art Walk and festivities on Saturday afternoon, April 20, starting at 1:00p.m

as art is in the eye of the beholder it is subjective. I for one am glad at the diverse murals and encourage more.

This art work in towns looks more like graffiti like in the city. We object as it does not belong in this affluent community.

Because blank walls are so much nicer than art.

Can’t wait to see them up! Thrilled that Mamaroneck is showcasing its history imagined through art.
