The long weekend began with Tigers boys lacrosse winning the Sectional Championship 12-11 in overtime vs Mahopac at White Plains. (Our coverage)
Then, with Hope and Courage, Mamaroneck won the tennis Section 1 Doubles Championship. Hope and Courage Crawford, that is…brothers who played against another set of brothers, Jeremy and James Wei from Horace Greeley. The Crawfords came from behind to defeat the Wei brothers 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Hope and Courage advance to the State tournament beginning Wed., 5/28 at the site of the US Open-USTA National Training Center in Flushing Meadows, NY.
Thursday, Mamaroneck varsity baseball won the 1st round of the Section 1 Class AA playoffs vs Carmel 6-1. Tigers played the Section Quarterfinal game today at home (complete game pitched by Kumar Nambiar) and came out on top 5-3 vs North Rockland. They will play again at home this Wednesday (time TBA) in the Semifinals against Arlington.
Finally, 19 Mamaroneck track and field athletes qualified for the Class A sectional final at Clarkstown HS yesterday. Junior, Katie DeVore won a silver medal in the 1500, and junior, Shari Rauls won a bronze in the 800. Seniors, Alex Parkinson in the high jump, and Carolyn Solimine in the discus throw, won bronze medals. Eight athletes have qualified for the State qualifier next week and four more are pending. Mamaroneck’s County Champion 4×800 team – freshman, Lauren Shpiz and Lily Ransom and juniors, Shari Rauls and Katie DeVore – will be racing for a chance to compete for the State championship in Albany in mid-June.
