Mamaroneck Schools Promote Principal in 2011 Racism Complaint at Central

Central School

The Mamaroneck Board of Education has approved the appointment of Carol Priore to the position of Assistant Superintendent for Administration and Personnel effective July 1

If the name is sounds familiar, Priore was the Principal at Central Elementary School in Larchmont/Mamroneck when the parent of a Kindergartener filed a complaint with the Dept. of Education claiming racial desegregation.

The Dept. Of Education’s Office of Civil Rights (OCR) found that Central’s class placement guidelines to be race-neutral, but did raise concerns about the consistent application of the District’s placement procedures.

The OCR report and a memo outlining the District’s Resolution Agreement are here.

The story received about 150 comments from Loop readers.

Priore spent seven years at Central, and has been the District’s Administrator for Personnel for the past two years.

In today’s announcement, District Superintendent writes Priore “is credited with having built a warm and caring culture” at Central.

“For the last two years, Carol has demonstrated a firm commitment to strengthening the Personnel Department and meeting the day-to-day challenges of providing over 840 active staff members and 500 retirees with the resources and information to meet a range of needs and requirements,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robert I. Shaps.  “She has demonstrated a keen understanding of all aspects of Human Resource Management and the primary responsibility of recruiting, hiring, and supporting the professional growth of highest quality teachers and administrators. Moreover, Carol continues to ’put people first’ and emphasize the ‘human’ side of personnel.  I am confident that Carol will continue to find creative opportunities to improve the personnel department.”

Carol Priore is the least judgmental person I have ever met. Anyone can file a complaint (and usually for their own personal gain and that motive is hidden from the public) about almost anything, and it was concluded that there was no basis for the claim or ANY wrongdoing on her or the school’s part. What a shoddy low grade cheap shot to put a headline like that, and fetch a picture off Facebook with her kids. The woman hardly missed any time during her courageous battle with cancer, and you reward her with a story like this. Anyone who comments without knowledge is also ignorant of the facts. The writer, cleverly hidden by the title “Loop staff”, is ready to work for gossip tabloids.

I am curious why a principal is responsible for supporting 500 retirees.

Hopefully her “keen understanding of all Human Resource Management ” and her” emphasis on the human side of personnel” will not result in any more Civil Rights complaints . Laughable if not financed by taxpayers .
