Over 300 people have signed a petition to bring a dog park to the Village of Mamaroneck.
The brainchild of Donna Dickerson, Mamaroneck resident, an educator at Central School and a volunteer at the Westchester Humane Society, the park would use about 8 acres of Village land off Taylor’s Lane.
“I think a dog park in Mamaroneck would be great for residents, and for socialization for dogs and people, says Dickerson. “I’ve lived here all my life, and I’m still meeting people I didn’t know. And a lot of them have dogs!”
She adds that dog owners wouldn’t have to drive to New Rochelle or Port Chester, where good dog runs already exist.

In addition to the petition, volunteers are gathering signatures door to door in the Village. Then Dickerson will take the matter up with the Village Board.
Some residents along Taylor’s Lane oppose the idea, citing traffic and noise concerns. Supporters of the plan say there will be a parking lot to mitigate the flow of cars.
“The Village has the land,” says Dickerson. “Why not use it?”
