The Mamaroneck Varsity Ice Hockey team closed out the regular season on a 4-game winning streak, including a pair of wins – 5-0 over North Rockland and 8-1 over White Plains – this past weekend, to finish with a record of 18-2.
As a result, the Tigers are the #1 seed for sectionals, ensuring home ice until the finals and a first round bye; they will play the winner of the New Rochelle-Rivertown game on Wednesday at 4pm.
The semifinals will take place on Friday (time TBD) and the finals on Sunday at 1pm at Brewster Ice Arena.
The Mamaroneck Boys Basketball team lost in the Outbracket round of sectionals on Friday, February 12th to Yorktown, by a score of 53-45.
Although the Tigers went down 12-4 to start the game, they rallied to cut the deficit to 16-13 by the end of the first quarter. At halftime, the team remained down by 3, losing by a score of 29-26. In the second half, the team teetered off, losing by 10 at the end of the third quarter, and then ultimately losing by 8. The Tigers finished the season with a record of 7-14.
After a strong showing from the basketball program the past two years, hosting sectional games, and making it to the second round for the first time in 37 years last season, it’s fair to say there was regression this year. With 8 players returning, however, the future looks bright.
