Mamaroneck Girls Relay Team Wins Second State Championship

RELAY STATE CHAMPS

Mamaroneck tracks girls 4 x 800m relay team — consisting of MHS seniors Lauren Chapey, Katie Devore and Shari Rauls, along with sophomore Lauren Shpiz– snatched the Gold again last weekend with a personal best time of 8 minutes, 54.33 seconds (second best outdoor time in the U.S. this spring) to win the D1 State and Federation titles.  Anchor Shari Rauls provided another suspenseful finish; their time was the second fastest time run this spring in the U.S. and the 12th fastest all time.

After the meet, the girls were awarded the Westchester Track and Field Girls Athletes of the Year by the Journal News.  The three All American seniors, all heading to Ivy League schools in the fall, where they will continue their running careers, have won two State championships and a National championship this year.

Additionally, junior Sam Morton was 8th overall in the boys 3200m with a near school record time of 9:14.38, and Katie Devore was 9th in the open 800m with a time of 2:12.55.
