Closing out their season in top form, the Mamaroneck Varsity Cheerleaders team finished 1st place in the Co-ed Small Varsity division Saturday at Saratoga Springs High School Bluestreak Cup Championship.
In addition, senior Jessica Damiano took first place in the Individual Cheer category. Rounding out the top honors with a strong, creative stunt sequence were seniors Marta Cutelo, Erica Ferraro, Sophie Friedman, Emily Staudt and Kristin Williams who won first place in the Individual Stunt category.
“Overall, it was such a memorable and rewarding experience,” said Lisa Ferraro, Varsity Cheerleading coach. “To work so hard as a team all season and get to see all the elements come together in their performances was really so exciting. This is the first time that Varsity Cheerleading has taken a 1st place trophy in a competition of this magnitude.”
Welcoming the cheerleaders’ home in great ceremonial fashion, Mamaroneck fire trucks met the team’s bus Sunday afternoon at the exit ramp off I-95 and escorted them back to the high school. With sirens roaring and lights blazing, the cheerleaders took a victory lap and celebrated amongst thrilled parents, family, and friends who lined the Post Road parking lot.
Mamaroneck Athletic Director Bari Suman reflects: “The competition in Saratoga Springs was a great culmination to all their hard work and dedication over the course of the past two seasons. The cheerleaders have brought school spirit events together during the fall and winter pep rallies. This was a terrific accomplishment to top off their season.”
