LWV to Lead Energy Conservation Initiative

Recent Trashion Show in California

The League of Women Voters of Larchmont Mamaroneck has announced a “Community Conservation Civics Initiative” it hopes will involve the entire community beginning in the New Year.

“The goal of this year long initiative is to engage all sectors of our community: families, schools, businesses, houses of worship, to audit their energy use, conserve what they consume and donate a portion of the savings to upgrade the energy systems in Town of Mamaroneck buildings,” said local League President Elisabeth Radow.

Specifically,  the Hommocks Ice Rink, the Town’s the biggest energy consumer, and the Town Center are considering significant energy upgrades.

The League will organize a “Trashion Show,”  tentatively scheduled for May 18, with students and elected officials modeling fashions created from recycled/upcycled materials.

They also plan a community yard sale where people can buy or sell things they no longer use and buy stuff others are selling and “participate in a silent auction where they can bid on great-never used-items that have been sitting on someone’s shelf,” Radow says.

Proceeds from admission to the trashion show,  $25 “rent” for the yard sale space and proceeds from the silent auction will go to the Town building energy upgrades.  Sale proceeds from the community yard sale will belong to residents to do with as they wish.
