Westchester residents will receive an update on the status of efforts to improve water quality in Long Island Sound at a public forum titled, “Long Island Sound Report Card” at the Mamaroneck Library tonuight.
The forum will provide residents an update of current improvements and future plans for the Long Island Sound cleanup from agencies representing different levels of government involved in cleanup efforts.
- Mark Tedesco, Director of the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Long Island Sound Office. The office coordinates the Long Island Sound Study, administered by EPA as part of the National Estuary Program under the Clean Water Act.
- Willie Janeway, Regional Director, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. DEC plays an important role in charting state policy on Long Island Sound.
- Thomas Lauro, Commissioner, Westchester County Department of Environmental Facilities. DEF
operates Westchester County’s system of sewage treatment plants and is implementing water quality upgrades at those facilities.- Nancy Seligson, New York Co-Chair of the Citizen’s Advisory Committee of the Long Island Sound
Study, former President of the nonprofit organization, Save the Sound, and Councilwoman in the Town of Mamaroneck. Nancy has been a long time citizen advocate for Long Island Sound.The forum will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 7:30 PM at the Mamaroneck Public Library (136 Prospect Ave., Mamaroneck).
Presentations by each speaker will be followed by question and answers from the audience. The forum is
for the general public and individuals concerned about Long Island Sound water quality issues.
