Local Storm Update: 2:30 pm Wednesday

Tree remains across Huguenot Avenue between Lafayette and Normandy in Town of Mamaroneck

Halloween Trick or Treating is discouraged by all local municipalities this evening, including Larchmont, Mamaroneck, New Rochelle and Rye due to downed wires and lack of street lights.

Legislator Judy Myers writes: “I’ve been participating in conference calls with Con Ed, and they really want to get the word out that Trick or Treating at night will be very dangerous and is not recommended. You might want to spread the word, if you haven’t already, that any and all downed wires should be treated as LIVE, that kids shouldn’t go out unaccompanied by adults, and everyone should have a flashlight!”

From Westchester County:

After a power failure, frozen foods that are hard and still contain ice crystals are safe to cook or refreeze.  Frozen foods that have thawed should be cooked and consumed immediately, or discarded.  Foods that have warmed to room temperature for more than two hours should be discarded.  For more information on post-storm safety, visit
