Larchmont’s Dog Beach Collared

bannedfromdogbeach

There are some sad dogs moping around. Larchmont has closed “Dog Beach” for the remainder of Fall, according to Village officials.

For those that have written us with questions about the apparent ban:

“An extensive renovation of the access area of Dog Beach was begun on October 7th and is expected to take 1-2 weeks. However, in order to allow the new plantings undisturbed time to get established, Dog Beach will be closed for the remainder of the fall.

We recognize the inconvenience this may cause to the residents who use this beach access, but feel this action is necessary to protect the substantial investment being made to rehabilitate this important community resource.”

I have been coming to this park and dog beach for years with my dog and now it is closed or new restrictions have been put on it. This I feel is an injustice to all of us pet owners who have enjoyed the luxury of getting out of our apartments and being able to spend a few hours out doors with our pets. Being a senior citizen it is very crucial that I shave some activity that I can enjoy doing with my pet besides an everyday walk. Does the Mayor realize that as seniors we may have no other outlet than the park and dog beach for our pets. This is a sad commentary for her shame on her. Thank You a concerned senior.

The mayor is doing the will of her high-tax paying constituents. Yelp users published the 411 on dog beach and it became a zoo on weekends. Some people were bringing food, beach chairs, coolers, blankets, radios, etc. Some did not pick up after their dogs (which irked me). Also, the natives don’t like outsiders (city folks) descending on their fancy ‘hood. The beach was strictly for dog swimming and wading-not the people. I saw adults and kids go in swimming over the years and told them to get out.

I emailed Mayor Walsh; of course she ignored my email. I’ll spend my dining out money in Port Chester.

There was nothing wrong with this beach! It was fixed up not long ago. Instead of wasting money so my dog can poop on some nicer plants, lower my property taxes!
