Larchmont’s Arrow Lamp & Lighting Turns off the Lights…Permanently

Arrow Lamp & Lighting Store closes

One more empty Larchmont storefront, but this one strikes a very sentimental spot for longtime residents.

After 73  years of business Arrow Lamp and Lighting on Boston Post Road has shut its doors for good.

In an message on the Arrow’s website, owner Craig Barre describes the “insurmountable obstacles” which forced the closure as the recent car accident that destroyed the storefront coupled with the gas line replacement and extensive street repaving on Boston Post Road.

“Since the beginning of August, business basically stopped…unlike anything I have ever experienced,” wrote Barr.

On a personal level, Barr revealed that the unfortunate business hurdles coincides with a personal diagnosis of Lyme Disease.  “Given all this, I could see no way forward.”

Barre started working at Arrow Lamp and Lighting at the age of 14 and stayed working there for the next 50 years. “This is not the ending I imagined for for my business.”

Larchmont Mayor Lorraine Walsh posted the news of the store’s closure on Facebook saying “I am extremely saddened by the news that Arrow Lighting is closing. They have been a fixture in Larchmont’s downtown since 1946, the last 39 years under the ownership of Craig Barre. Although the circumstances are complicated, this is a stark reminder to us of the importance of shopping local. Our small, local businesses are a treasure – but they are living, breathing entities that require our care and attention to remain viable. Without them we are diminished.”
