They’re Gonna Party Like it’s 1891

Larchmont 125 Kicks Off in September

It’s a great excuse for a party.

The Village of Larchmont (b. 1891) is undertaking a year-long celebration of its 125 years since incorporation, with  public events and educational programs for all ages. On September 22, 1891, the Larchmont Manor Company was dissolved and the community was officially incorporated as the Village of Larchmont.

Events are planned to honor Larchmont’s growth and development even earlier, when Quaker refugees settled from New England in the 1600s. Later, as wealthy residents of New York City established estates, Larchmont developed an early reputation as “a summer playground for New York’s elite.”

A committee established by the Village of Larchmont Board of Trustees, “Larchmont 125,” are planning events to begin in September 2015 and go until September 2016.

“Larchmont 125 is a celebration about the life and times of the residents who have made this village such a special place,” said Peter Fanelli, Village of Larchmont Trustee.

Scheduled so far:

  • Mayor’s Proclamation and Birthday Cake (September 2015 Kick-Off Event)
  • Living History Trolley Tours
  • “Decades” Parade
  • Time Capsule (to be opened on the 150th anniversary in 2041)
  • 1890s Gala Ball (September 2016)

There is also logo contest. Information and entry forms can be found on the celebration organization’s website, Larchmont125.org.

About Larchmont 125

On September 22, 1891, the Larchmont Manor Company was dissolved and the community was officially incorporated as the Village of Larchmont. To mark this momentous occasion, the Village of Larchmont Board of Trustees established a quasquicentennial celebration coordination committee, “Larchmont 125,” comprised of Larchmont area residents with ties to the local business, historical, educational, and cultural communities. The committee will plan, promote, and produce signature events which will be paid for by the nonprofit “Celebrate Larchmont, Inc.” through fundraising activities, sponsorships, donations, concessions, and commemorative merchandise sales. Information about the upcoming festivities can be found on the “Larchmont 125” website www.Larchmont125.org.
