Larchmont Yacht Club’s 113th Annual Race Week

Larchmont Yacht Club will host its 113th Annual Race Week, beginning today July 16, through the 24th.

Race Week 2010

Larchmont’s race week has been one of the premier yacht racing competitions on Long Island Sound for over a century. Over 1,000 sailors are expected to participate, representing yacht clubs from all over the country.  This week of sailing will include many magnificent fleets of racing boats, with over 125 senior race boats and over 500 junior race boats registered to compete. The fleet will include cruising and classic yachts, One-designs, Viper 640s, Ideal-18s and Vanguard 15s, Lasers, Laser radials, 420s, Pixels, Blue Jays and Optimists, Nation Level Team Racing, as well as CR-914 model boat racing.

Race Week will also include the yacht club’s second annual Classics Race.  Committee Chair Jed Kelly and race organizer Pamela Dubitsky expect about twenty classic boats to attend. These wooden boats, some of which are close to 100 years old, represent the designs of renowned naval architects of their eras, including Herreshoff, Alden, Owen and Rhodes.  According to Dubitsky, “These classic boats are always beautiful to watch and to photograph.  Classic boat owners take great pride in maintaining and racing these boats.  When the sails are raised, they are a sight to behold!”

Larchmont’s Classics Race is the first event of the season in the 2011 WoodenBoat Regatta Series  The race will include an around-the-buoy race on Saturday, July 16, and a long-distance race (co-hosted by Seawanhaka Yacht Club) across Long Island Sound, from Larchmont to Oyster Bay, on Sunday, July 17.
