Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions Distribute 1,800 Pairs of Eyeglasses

The Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions Club is known for its commitment to vision and distribution of eyeglasses, and has recently distributed 1,800 pairs of new glasses to area service organizations.

The glasses were provided from a donation from an eyeglass company to the New York Lions District.

The community service organizations include Larchmont Mamaroneck Community Resource Center, St. Rita’s Free Medical Clinic in Mamaroneck, Coalition for Homeless (CFH) in NYC, and Care for the Homeless in the Bronx and VHP (Volunteer Health Program),

The glasses are 4 per package fashion designer “readers” in +1.50, +2.00 and +2.50 strengths.

The Lions continue to collect & recycle old glasses, which residents can deposit in Lions eyeglass recycle boxes in businesses around town and at the Larchmont & Mamaroneck Libraries, Post Offices and Town Centers.

The Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions are part of Lions Clubs International, the world’s largest service organization, with 1.5 million members.  LCI is led by its first women president, Gudrun Bjort Yngvadottir from Iceland. She has established the following 5 causes for Lions support – Vision, Hunger, Environment, Diabetes & Childhood Cancer.

The Lions are also signatories to the United Nations 50/50 by 30 women’s rights campaign, and are committee members of the UN’s Refugee crisis team.
