Irvington Outranks Mamaroneck?

We already know that Mamaroneck is a great place to live (Why else would we be here?) but

formal recognition from “outsiders” is always good to get too.

That’s why we like that Mamaroneck has been named by Westchester Magazine as the fifth best place to live in the county, based factors like diversity, housing, schools, nightlife, proximity to water and all those other things that go into compiling such rankings.

Out of the list of 40 such places, only Irvington, Ossining, Dobbs Ferry and Hastings-on-Hudson in that order placed above Mamaroneck – making our hometown the only Sound Shore community to rank in the Top 10 (though neighboring Scarsdale came in No. 7).

As the magazine says, “Check it out on a Thursday night—the town is jumping with music, outdoor dining, and shops open late for business. As for proximity to water, you couldn’t get much closer, and there’s plenty for everyone to do along the Long Island Sound shoreline, from the weekly farmers’ market in the warmer months to opportunities to kayak and sail, and playgrounds and ball fields for youngsters.”

Nothing we didn’t know first, right? (Now does that include the Town of Mamaroneck, with a Larchmont P.O. too?)

Larchmont 10538 is on the WAY up – it’s our Cycle now. What will happen to Mamk Ave in the next year with all these restaurants, and more to come, is that there will be no parking, and it will drive customers away. Just wait.
Mamk Village adds more and more restaurants and they dont add more parking. The decks they are considering will never be built due to funding

So how come nobody is talking about that vibrant Larchmont town center? Guess boarded up store fronts don’t count. Kudos to Mamaroneck leadership for revitalizing their town – perhaps Larchmont can flatter Mamk by imitating it. Well, we do have Red Mango …

Both Irvington and Mamaroneck are great places.

Based on these ratings; I strongly suspect that the editor of Westchester Magazine prefers fresh water to salt water.

Being raised on and in the Sound, and having swum in the Hudson ‘way back when Croton Point was an idolic beach; I certify that salt water is better, and therfore Mamaroneck is better than Irvington.

Likewise, New Rochelle is far finer, in every way, than Ossining; and Larchmont surely overshadows Dobbs Ferry.

And how would Scarsdale rank in the top 10 of any of these???
Diversity? No
Housing? Expensive
Schools? Good
Nightlife? Non existent
Proximity to water? Landlocked
All those other things? Many readers of Westchester Magazine live in Scarsdale

Go Editrix. And let’s show the 4-color perfect-bound that theloop hyperlocals know the difference between a town and a village. Maybe next, we can even bring some order to our maze, save some money and do things better while we’re at it :)
