A LoHud report cites some safety issues at Playland, including:
- Two years in a row of birds and rats or squirrels getting into bags of hot dog buns. In 2016, birds apparently defecated on boxes and bags delivered by a bakery.
- A lack of wiping down of ride vehicles and gates.
- Some areas with worn carpets, floors or chipped paint — aesthetic issues but not safety concerns.
- The appearance of a lack of manpower that at times led to certain rides being closed during busy periods.
