The arts are educational and enriching in the newest pre-k program offered by The Rye Arts Center this fall. Using drawing, painting, music and creative movement as the lesson plan, “Half Day for Half Pints” is designed to help Pre-K students develop cognitive, social, creative and motor skills through creative arts immersion. The program is designed to give families maximum flexibility and offered as a standalone program or in combination with a pre-school day.
“Nurturing young minds through active participation in creating and experiencing art is a proven way to enrich learning,” said Helen Gates, Executive Director of The Rye Arts Center. “Parents and caregivers are looking for high quality programs to engage the active minds of their pre-school children and Half Day for Half Pints responds to the need for a program where children can explore, learn and have fun through immersion in the creative arts.” Gates explained.
Designed to be either a complement to an existing half day pre-k program or as a stand-alone arts program, families have the option to extend their child’s pre-k day by taking advantage of the Creative Kids ‘walk to the arts center’ option. Children from two participating Rye nursery schools will be personally met by Diana and her team and walked to and from the arts center, allowing a parent or care giver to extend a morning or afternoon pre-K program into a full day.
