Gift Idea: Books by Local Authors

Check out these non-fiction books by local authors- and consider them as gifts, even for yourself…

New Rochelle writer and historian Linda Tarrant-Reid’s recently published, beautiful,  Discovering Black America was read from by Academy Award-nominated actress and New Rochelle resident Ruby Dee at the Thomas Paine Cottage Museum in October.

DON’T EAT ME!â„¢ A Cookbook for Animal Lovers, by Robin Gager is a beautifully illustrated and mouth-watering collection of recipes that are good for you and cruelty-free. She makes the case, as well, that vegetarians and vegan live healthier lives. Gager works at Larchmont’s ReCologie, if you’d like it autograped.

One Day: Photos of Life in New Rochelle 10-10-10– Photographer and New Rochelle resident Karen Hessel  put together images by photographers in the parks, on the streets and in the air.

A Day in the Life of Larchmont–Apparently, they didn’t know New Ro was doing a similar project (above), but Larchmont, too, had a Day in the Life Project that was also just published as a book. The Larchmont Historical Society asked photographers to shoot images of the Village on one day, October 20, 2011.

Did we leave out your book? email us and we’ll include it in the next local books post!
