See the General standing behind New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson at the City’s Memorial Day celebration? Brig. Gen. Fermijon Marrero –who marched in that day’s parade as Grand Marshall–turns out not to be a General at all.
According to Talk of the Sound, this came to light based on information published on a blog called This Ain’t Hell and research done by the POW Network site. The POW Network specializes in outing phony claims on POW status.
News 12 reported, “according to documents obtained by the New Rochelle American Legion, Fermijon Marrero, who claimed to have been a prisoner in a Vietnamese camp for eight months during the Vietnam War, is actually a Manhattan man who never even served in Vietnam and was discharged from the U.S. Army as a private after a few months in the mid-1970s.”
