Free Hookups

Wifi, that is…here’s our unofficial list of where to go wireless around theLoop. After all, who can stand being off-line at PetSmart?

  • All of the local public libraries (including the Rye Free Reading Room) have free wifi, albeit with content and usage restrictions.
  • Larchmont’s Auray Gourmet (144 Larchmont Avenue),
  • Mango Mix (130 Chatsworth Avenue),
  • Harry’s Burritos (94 Chatsworth Avenue)
  • Turquoise Restaurant (1895 Palmer Avenue)
  • The New Rochelle BID district is a free 20 plus block outdoor hotspot  that includes Main and Huguenot Streets, Memorial Plaza, Avalon on the Sound’s outdoor recreation areas, Library Green, Monroe College’s outdoor campus areas, New Street at New Roc City, as well as the train station.
  • McDonald’s restaurants
  • Cosi restaurants
  • Panera Bread locations
  • Noticeably absent from this list is Starbucks.  That’s because you can only get two hours a day free at Starbucks if, and only if, you have a registered Starbucks Card and agree to receive emails from AT&T which provides the service.
  • Mamaroneck’s Cafe Mozart (308 Mamaroneck Avenue).
  • Equinox Gyms
  • Central Avenue around the Scarsdale/Yonkers border is also hot wired:
  • Pizza and Brew (851 Central Avenue),
  • Office Depot (423 Central Avenue),
  • Kinkos (731 Central Avenue),
  • Barnes & Noble (2614 Central Avenue)
  • and even PetSmart (2458 Central Avenue).
  • Rye’s Rye Bar & Grill (One Station Plaza) and Patisserie Salzberg (77 Purchase Street) both say they have it.  And rumor has it that patrons at
  • Ruby’s Bar & Grill in Rye (45 Purchase Street) are able to use the network from the Cosi across the street.

No doubt we’ve missed some places, so please let us know where else to go for free wifi.
