Four Rye homes were burglarized Wednesday over a period of 4½ hours starting in broad daylight, police said.
The houses – located on Stuyvesant, Glendale and Locust avenues and Kirby Lane North – are scattered around the city. The incidents occurred between 2:30 and 7 p.m., they said.
The burglar or burglars forced their way into each of the homes. Two Apple computers, several gaming consoles and a jewelry box were stolen from one house. Another resident came home to find her bedroom ransacked.
Police are using the crimes as a platform to remind residents to take standard precautions, like locking doors and leaving outside lights on.
Travelers should go even further to make sure their houses don’t look empty by leaving on outside lights, cancelling newspaper deliveries and asking neighbors to keep an eye on their homes, they said.
