Summer of ’69 is set 50 years ago, and — despite being labeled a novel — is Todd’s almost entirely autobiographical account of that trippy summer revolving around great music, free love, the first manned moon landing, a cornucopia of illegal substances, Vietnam, and Woodstock. In the first chapter, we find Todd in a somewhat “compromised” state at the wheel of his psychedelically-painted microbus careening down the Mass Pike. That was the beginning of the summer and things would only get weirder from there, ending with the Woodstock music festival and a funeral for someone dear to Todd who died much too young.
Todd Strasser is the author of many award-winning YA novels, including The Wave, Price of Duty, No Home, and Fallout, which the New York Times called, “Superb entertainment… and gripping suspense.” Todd’s Help! I’m Trapped In … middle-grade series sold more than 5 million copies world-wide. His books have been translated into more than twenty languages, and several have been adapted for TV and film.
