Emelin Announces New Season

Emelin Theatre

Who needs a Smoky New York Club (well, we all do, but…) when all you have to do is go to Mamaroneck to see Southside Johnny or The Glenn Miller Orchestra? Dar Williams or the Blues Brothers?

The Emelin Theatre has announced the 2013-14 Season,  featuring award-winning theatre, dance, music, family programs, and more.  Individual tickets purchased prior to September 21 are $5 off.

Blind Summit Presents
The Table
Sun, Nov 17, 2013 @ 8pm
A cantankerous puppet with a cardboard head has an existential crisis, on a table. Is he a puppet prophet or just an idiot on a table? Described by The Guardian as “a smart, lively young company bringing real verve to the art form,” Blind Summit Theatre presents puppets in new places and in surprising new ways. Recommended for ages 12+. Occasional strong language is used. Running time: 75 min.

Audie and his band are known for their dynamic vocals, powerful instrumentals and entertaining on-stage choreography around a single microphone.   A veteran of first generation bluegrass star Jimmy Martin’s band, Audie later joined Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, with whom he last appeared at the Emelin.  His band Redline features some of the best young musicians in bluegrass.  Incomparable drive, emotion, and flair are the hallmarks of this terrific band.

The sublime guitar playing of Kenny Smith, two-time IBMA Guitar Player of the Year, is just one of the reasons for this band’s great popularity.  His wife Amanda is among the finest, most expressive singers in bluegrass, by turns sweet, wistful, happy, lyrical, and strong.  Named IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year in 2003, Kenny & Amanda are returning to the Emelin for the first time since 2007.

Dan Paisley and the Southern Grass

Dan Paisley has appeared at the Emelin more than any other bluegrass artist.  Continuing in the hard-driving tradition of his late father, Bob Paisley, Dan and his band deliver intense, relentless, take-no-prisoners bluegrass of the first order.  This appearance introduces a third-generation Paisley to the Emelin audience – Dan’s young son, Ryan, on mandolin.

Each evening hosts the work of 4 choreographers and their companies, followed by an audience Q&A with the performers and Gladstone, providing an inside look at the diversity of today’s dance landscape. Whether you are a dance expert or a novice, the Emelin and OTG put you in the know.

OTG’s stellar line-up is packed with groundbreaking newcomers and icons of contemporary dance. Specific programs for each date will be announced shortly. Hungarian State Folk Ensemble
