Customers of Former Larchmont Thrift Store Claim Theft

The owner of Larchmont Thrift and Consignment Shop, which shuttered its doors for good earlier this year, was accepting items from customers, then selling them online for his own profit, according to several area residents.

Customers of the store at 134 Larchmont Avenue , which opened in September, 2017, say they brought in often expensive items to consign, and were later unable to reach the owner to see if they had sold.

Then, say several people, they discovered their belongings for sale or already sold on Poshmark.com, an online site selling designer clothing and shoes.

A Mamaroneck woman recounts on social media that she consigned a Gucci watch and Tiffany ring to Larchmont Thrift and Consignment Shop owners Frank DiBuono and his mother Diana DiBuono of New Rochelle.

“Two months passed and still no check. Closed doors, the phone number wasn’t correct. I put notes on the door a few times but nothing happened!,” she writes

Area residents say these are some of the items consigned to Larchmont Thrift that were sold online by the owner on his Poshmark site.

At least nine people have posted on an extensive thread on nextdoor.com that they had similar experiences.

“I found 10 of my items sold on Poshmark,” writes another Mamaroneck resident. ” I have the original invoice written up by Frank when I dropped off my items. (They) were on the shop owner’s Poshmark online store.”

The Poshmark site appears to have been taken down in the last day.

“I gave him expensive things to sell and he never got in touch with me for months,” writes a Larchmont woman. “When I went in and asked for my items to be returned, he said he had sold some of them and would send a check. I had to keep calling and then received a very small check. He told me to come back for the expensive clothing items I had given him. When I went back, his mother gave me a small white plastic bag of cheap, smelly items that were not mine. ”

One customer tells theLoop she returned to the store to collect the items that hadn’t sold and she was told they had been given away.

“He said after 90 days everything is given to charity,” she said. “That was never agreed to. When I questioned him, he got very angry at me. It was very uncomfortable.”

Larchmont Police say they are unable to investigate because this is a civil matter. Small Claims Court is one option. The Westchester District Attorney has been alerted to the dispute, according to former customers.

A woman identifying herself as a relative says DiBuono also owned King’s Gamer’s World at 731 West Boston Post Road in Mamaroneck. That store is also closed.

  1. As we were writing our article I was sent this article. I do not know if it is related but Frank DiBuono was running tag sales out of his home or a family member’s so I am told, after Frank closed the store. I have a photo: https://larchmontloop.com/wp-content/uploads/Image.jpeg

  2. Lowball scummers and scammers oh my! Soon we’ll find his and his Moms address, and get the warrants sussed out. This crime family needs to be behind bars. Let’s get leins on anything they’ve got.

  3. Mr. DiBuono:
You have been ripping people off in this community for years, King Games in Mamaroneck, for one. I personally came to your Thrift Store to pick up my items and they were gone. Like others in this story, I believe you sold them off site and kept the proceeds. This was long before your alleged electric problems.
By the way, isn’t your father running for office in tomorrow’s election in New Rochelle?
Now, why don’t you answer the questions posed by Toki, below?

  4. To former owner/s of Larchmont Thrift and Consignment Store,

    Hi,

I am one of your clients who felt shocked when I saw you are gone and
never got any check in the mail as you have promised me. Months ago.

A few questions I have and I want it publicly shared.

Do you sill have all your customers’ copies of their contracts?

Have you contacted them since closing your store?

Have you had a note on your door telling people that they can come by and take their unsold items because you are closing the store or you just covered your store’s windows with papers?

Have you seen cards and notes under your doors?

Can you, upon request and a valid contract, show your copy of the check you have sent to any and possibly show that it was cashed out?

Have you sold items after your closing in Mamaroneck or other places personally?

Have you changed your Poshmark store’s name since yesterday?

This became a Civil Matter it seems due to your neglecting to contact customers and pay them even though you’ve had many months to do so.
I don’t know if I want to email you privately because I want people to tell their stories.

I know you have happy buyers!

By the way, I have a legit contract, your handwriting, dates and can show that you have sold my items last March on Poshmark. I haven’t receive a dime, a text, or a voice massage.
I thought it was just me, but then people are sharing their stories and they are identical.

I believe in goodness that resides in people, that said, what I want is a safe community, respect and acknowledgement of business owners that I am/we are your city members. I believe it is a core of a civil place to have a real solid and safe relationship with each other.

Let’s be kind to each other. That’s my aim.

  5. So he all of a sudden wants to make good on and or review contracts from 10 months ago, now?
Do we know who the landlord is? I do not know that space to be substandard space.. Is there a reason he used the larchmont store front on his other sites until yesterday? His defense is all people on nextdoor are mistaken? And it’s a coincidence the same scenario reportedly happened at comic store location.?

    • There is no all of a sudden and is no making good this is what it has been since day one. As I’ve stated all valid contracts from January through the end of March if there was any problems or mistakes becauseOf what was going on we will be happy to work it out. This was put up on the doors for weeks when we were closing with a way of contact on it. Also anyone that contacted us was taken care of. Each and every contract since the beginning of the business starting has always had the time frame for the contract + the 2 week stipulation on it and each customer had to sign and agree to all the terms before hand, also was always read this to them and went over it with them before they signed.
We did not have working electric for months during the winter due to the building wiring and the landlord not taking care of the problem correctly it was a horror show.
I am posting this for everyone to see and I’m going to put it up so people if they have an issue or something was missed can contact us and it will be taken care of. If you had a contract between January – the end of March beginning of April and there’s an issue at all that you need it explained contact us at designersales54@gmail.com and we will happily work it out. Thank you

  6. This is an absolute false . I am The owner of Larchmont thrift , Nothing has been sold from the store Since we were closed. Also we closed due to the landlord not providing sub stainable electric to the building that cost us dearly and it has been a horrible event. Every contract that has ever been taken in and was Gone over and explained before the costumer signed. Every contract had a three month timeframe, after three months if the item didn’t sell customers had 2 weeks to pickup or the items were donated to the store.
We sent out letters we posted on the door frame for weeks where we could be contacted while we were closing. Any valid contracts from January to April 2019 if they were not taken care of anyway you can contact us at designersales54@gmail.com. If anyone has any questions contact us there send us a copy of your contract and we will contact you back and go over it withYou. We will only deal with the owner of the contract themselfs. We also do not appreciate people making up false hoods and lies and all these untruths. if any valid Contracts in that timeframe were not taken care of in anyway from January 2019 until March 2019 contact us immediately and we will get it taken care of.
If anything was overlooked during this time because of the hardship that we were going through we apologize and Are more than happy to get it taken care of. Again please contact us with your contract at designersales54@gmail.com thank you. We will be posting this all over so there is no confusion and for anyone that has any questions.

    • Larchmont thrift does not exist, correct? I never had any business dealings with you but I could have very well been anyone of these customers. You have posted your renamed Poshmark site on twitter nov 2 after not having tweeted for over 2 months.. announcing your sale.. and have since deleted about 60 listings, wouldn’t’ happen to be the items of people finally confronting you? And I will mention the correction on o a previous post that it is your father in law who is up for election in New Rochelle
Also heard you may have had a tag sale in last 2 weeks or so

      • Yes there were 2 of my items on last Poshmark as of last week before he closed down site and he stole lots of money from me. Do you know where I can register my name as being one of the customers he scammed?

  7. I don’t understand why this is considered a civil matter. It should be criminal – it’s obvious he stole the items.

    • I agree he stole lots of gold, mink coat and other valuables from me with promises of selling those items on all different sites so he needed time to develop those sites and after holding me off for months and promising me a check? Which bounce and he feels that to give check which bounce is not a crime? Where can I register my name to be notified of any further developments to sue this person.
