When you meet Renee Cohen, you know instinctively that she will excel in whatever she puts her mind to.
Fortunately for those of us who like to eat, it is cooking. Here, part technical prowess, part art form.
Her welcoming Mamaroneck kitchen is the hands-on classroom of Cuisine Arts, where “classes for the home chef” range from Italian to Indian; some classes go out of the kitchen to Arthur Avenue in the Bronx or Little Arabia in Brooklyn for an insiders tour.
This week, six of us learned to prepare a Middle Eastern feast: Greek Salad, Lebanese Tabouleh, Hummus, Marinated Olives, Lamb Tangine, Roast Chicken with Sumak, Za’atar and Lemon, Persian Orange Rice and more. It was amazing. And now we know where to buy the speciality items and make it ourselves. We hope.
Classes are $95, packed with information, and really fun and delicious: you get to eat what you made over lunch.
