Coming Up: Wildcliff Harvest Festival

NEW ROCHELLE– Celebrate the bounty of the fall at the 2nd annual Wildcliff Harvest Festival Fundraiser, an event featuring feasting, merriment and fun for everyone.  A true harvest celebration, the festival will include a petting zoo, apple cider, donuts, arts and crafts for kids (including collaging and pumpkin decorating), live entertainment, local artisans, and of course, fall harvest food.  The event was created in 2011 to bring the New Rochelle community together as well as raise awareness for the Wildcliff renovation project; all proceeds will benefit Jen’s Community at Wildcliff (JCW.)

Wildcliff, a Gothic Revival manor house with panoramic views of Long Island Sound, is a building on the National Registry of Historic Places. Designed by noted architect Alexander Jackson Davis in the 1850s, Wildcliff was used as a private home, then gifted to the city of New Rochelle in 1940. It has since been a children’s science museum/nature center and a theater, but now stands empty.  At JCW’s April Plant’N’Picnic event, local volunteers planted the first garden Wildcliff has had in many years, sprouting heirloom tomatoes and Dragon’s Tongue Beans by summer.  Fundraising has begun, and with the approval of the City of New Rochelle, construction on the site can begin next year.
