The Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions Club has set May 11 as Eye-Health Day, highlighted by free vision screenings for children from 6 months to 10 years at the Mamaroneck Public Library.
The Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions regularly offer free screenings to area pre-school & grammar schools and homeless shelters. The May 11th Mamaroneck Library screenings will introduce the Lions first use of their new latest generation eye testing diagnostic camera, which will provide instant test results. The new camera purchase was joint effort of the Sound Shore Lions Clubs and grants from the NYC Lions District and the St John’s Episcopal Church Women.
May 11th Eye-health Day will also focus on eyeglass recycling. Residents are familiar with the Lions eyeglass recycling boxes found all around town. On May 11 the town will dedicate a special recycle mailbox at the Mamaroneck Town Center.
Also, on May 11, Lions volunteers will take the thousands of eye-glasses collected so far this year to the Lions recycle Center. There they will serve as volunteers in the recycle process and fill requests from humanitarian service organizations around the world.
Eye health & support for the blind is the signature cause of the Lions. The Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions are part of Lions Clubs International, the world’s largest service organization, with 1.5 million members.
