Coming Up: Girl Power-Mar. 4

A Girl Name Digit bookcover

“A Celebration of Girl Power” will be the theme of a book talk and signing with teen author, Annabel Monaghan, hosted at Larchmont bookstore The Voracious Reader in partnership with the Westchester Chapter of Room to Read, a global non-profit literacy organization, on Wednesday, March 4, at 6:30pm.

Last spring, Room to Read student clubs and initiatives in Hommocks Middle School (Mamaroneck), Pelham Memorial High School, and The Ursuline School (New Rochelle) joined forces and succeeded in raising $5,000 to build a school library for students in Sri Lanka.

Monaghan, a resident of Rye, will speak about girl empowerment, which is at the heart of her books and central to the mission of Room to Read’s education and literacy work in Asia and Africa. This event is free and open to the public.

Monaghan is the author of two novels for young adults, A Girl Named Digit and Double Digit.  These serial romance-thrillers are about a Math whiz teenage girl whose knack for cracking codes gets her into unexpected intrigues involving the FBI, CIA, and eco-terrorists, all of which she negotiates while rising to her girl power in the process. Monaghan is also co-author of Click! The Girl’s Guide to Knowing What You Want and Making it Happen, a book aimed at empowering teenage girls to achieve their dreams.
